JOIN THE 2014 HAUNTS AGAINST HUNGER MOVEMENT AND HELP SCARE AWAY HUNGER!

We are celebrating 6 years of helping "scare away hunger!"  It takes special kinds of people to go to the extent some of us do to decorate our homes and to run haunt attractions and special events in our communities. It takes even more to bring it to the level where it can help other less fortunate individuals in our communities.

While many of us are enjoying Halloween, there are those who are just trying to find their next meals.

In 2010, 17.2 million, in other words 14.5 percent, of American households (approximately one in seven) were food insecure, the highest number ever recorded in the United States
(Coleman-Jensen 2011, p. v.).

Put your Halloween enthusiasm to work to help make positive change in your community!

Many yard haunts, haunted attractions, and community events have become well-known in their communities and traditions for celebration on an annual basis. What we have been doing is using this opportunity to set up "Haunts Against Hunger" food drives to collect non-perishable food items to help stock the shelves of local food pantries.

Each food drive will be able to determine which community food pantry will benefit from their efforts.  If you have not chosen a food pantry, we can assist you with making contact and getting the ball rolling. This is a great way for your yard haunt, haunt attraction or special event to show your community that you care and want to help “scare away hunger."

We are proud to announce that Linda Blair has joined team Haunts Against Hunger. Ms. Blair has long been recognized as a talented actress, humanitarian and animal lover. She has devoted her life to her non-profit organization, the Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation, which works to rescue abused, neglected and mistreated animals.

Linda made the suggestion that not only should we collect human food, but also collect food for animals in need at local pet shelters.  Starting this year, Haunts Against Hunger drives will also collect food for pets in need in the spirit of the Worldheart Foundation.  Linda is also helping us lead the charge to bring the food drive to a national level.

Linda is an inspiration to us all. I am proud to call her a friend.

Getting involved with community service is one way of putting your mark on the world and experiencing diversity to enhance your mind and spirit. The true human spirit is helping others.

Have a happy and safe Halloween.
